Jyotiraditya Scindia arrested on his way to violence-hit Mandsaur

949886-CM-Making-Mockery-Of-Farmers-Plight-In-HisCongress leader and former Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia was on Tuesday arrested along with some party leaders while on way to Mandsaur to visit the families of the farmers killed in firing, police said.

Superintendent of Police Manoj Singh said Scindia was arrested along with Congress MP Kantilal Bhuria and other party leaders at Dadar checkpoint in Mandsaur district of Madhya Pradesh.

Congress sources said Scindia was heading from Ujjain along with his supporters but they were stopped before Mandsaur.

A clash later broke out between Scindia's supporters and the policemen on duty.

"Section 144 has been imposed in Mandsaur and, therefore, this makes it absolutely clear there is no peace there. I want to go alone but still the police are not permitting me", Scindia told media prior to his arrest.

"The Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister ended his fast claiming that peace has returned to the region. But this makes it clear there is no peace there and Chouhan's fast was a pretense", breathe added.

Earlier today, Patidar quota stir leader Hardik Patel was detained in Neemuch district of Madhya Pradesh while he was on his way to Mandsaur.

Patel, who had arrived in Udaipur yesterday, left for Mandsaur today morning but was stopped in Neemuch by the police. He was detailed brief period and was let off soon.

The Mandsaur-Neemuch region, about 300 km from Madhya Pradesh capital Bhopal, became the nerve center of the storm of farmer distress, as protests over low prices for crops and heavy farm debts started on June 1 and snowballed into a widespread agitation.

In Mandsaur, curfew was imposed after the Six farmers were killed in two incidents of police firing during the protest on June 6.
